Current and Upcoming Grants

SFI Annual Health and Welfare Review

Grant application deadline: 19th June 2027

Value: various depending on livestock (see link)

This grant covers a vet visit for a health and welfare check on livestock. Those who have 11 or more cattle, 21 or more sheep, or 51 or more pigs are eligible for this grant. Extra funding for endemic disease follow-ups is also available.

Laying Hen Housing for Health and Welfare

Grant application deadline: Round 1 closes on 30th January 2026

Value: between £5,000 – £500,000

This grant is for replacing or refurbishing existing hen and pullet housing, including retrofitting verandas onto existing buildings. Applications will open soon – see more information at:

Cattle Housing for Health and Welfare

Grant application deadline: coming soon

Value: TBC


Funding for upgrades to housing for cattle aged 6 months+ that improves health and welfare as well as productivity and sustainability. Applications will open soon – see:

Grants for Invited Applicants

Improving Farm Productivity (round 2)

Grant application deadline: 31st July 2025

Value: £2,500 – £500,000

 

This grant provides funding for innovative farming equipment, such as robotic and automated systems or solar equipment, that can increase productivity and improve the environment. 

Note: only invited applicants from Round 1 can apply for this grant.

Water Management Grant

Grant application deadline: 31st October 2024

Value: £35,000 – £500,000

This is for improving water efficiency including irrigation equipment, farm reservoirs and water sustainability.

Closed Grants

These grants are currently closed, but more application windows may be opened before the end of 2024.

Grant to Improve Productivity

Value: £1,000 – £50,000 

Provided through the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2024, this grant is for equipment, technology and infrastructure that can improve farm productivity and reduce emissions and waste.

Grant to Improve Animal Health And Welfare

Value: £1,000 – £25,000

This provides funding for equipment that improves animal welfare – see more details and a prescribed list of items at 

Grant to Improve Slurry Management

This grant is for equipment for improving slurry management and reducing pollution. See more information and a prescribed list of items at:

Slurry Infrastructure Grant

Value: £25,000 – £250,000

This can help you to improve or expand your farm’s slurry storage capacity. Find out more at 

Farming Innovation Programme

Defra’s Farming Innovation Programme awarded £7.8 million in farming innovation projects, Funding has been awarded for this year, but check https://farminginnovation.ukri.org/ for updates on future available funding.
